The Czech-Arab Association

An independent, non-profit organisation founded on October 24, 1990. The Czech-Arab Association took up the operation of the Arab committee functioning since 70's as a part of the Czechoslovakian organisation for foreign affairs. The main goal of the association is to familiarize the Czech public with history, culture and lives of the citizens of the Arab countries. The association holds lectures, seminars, discussions with travelers, Arabists and other experts on the Arab countries, cultural evening parties, exhibitions of photography, paintings and hand-made products, organizes projections of Arab films and selling exhibitions of products from the Arab countries. Among the association members belong also distinguished professionals, that spent parts of their life in the Arab countries or that have there professional ties. The association operation is also contributed by the leading historians, Egyptologists, professors, doctors, businessmen and technicians, but also college and high school students or tourists and Orient admirers. A considerable part of the association members is created by Czech citizens with Arab roots. The association cooperates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, especially with the department for culture, communication and presentation and the department for the Near East and North Africa, with Arab embassies in Prague, with clubs and organisations of citizens of Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Jordan and other countries, that operates in the Czech Republic and a list of museums and cultural institutions. As a part of the association there exist minor associations like The association of the friends of particular Arab countries or regional offices in Brno, Pilsen, Hradec Králové, Olomouc and České Budějovice.
