Scouting in the Middle East

13.3, 13 March 6PM | Skautský institut v Plzni | Klára Jiráčková

What does Scouting in the Middle East look like? How did it get there, how does it differ from Czech Scouting and how is it similar to it? Such questions interested Klára Jiráčková, who spent about three years looking for answers in the archives and joined scout troops in Egypt, Morocco and Oman - three countries in the Middle East and North Africa, which differ significantly from each other.

We invite you to take a peek under the “cell” of Scouting there. You'll learn about the role religion and politics play in the work of local troops, learn about the legacy of kings and sultans, and see what Scout camps look like. Do you want to know why some Middle Eastern troops don't think Czech Scouts are actually Scouts? Come to the first pre-festival event at the Scout Institute in Pilsen.

The event takes place as part of the accompanying programme of the 14th annual Festival of Arab Culture. This year's subtitle SPORT refers not only to the need for solodarity, fair play and leisure activities. It is no coincidence that the Scouts bring the light of Bethlehem from the Arab world for the Christmas holidays...

Word chain in Arabic

3.4, 3 April, 5:30PM | Kulturka ZČU, Sedláčkova 19 | Daniel Krejčí

An Arabic lesson that will be a bit of a sporting exercise. However, you will not need to be physically fit. All you need is a good mood and the determination to learn sports-related vocabulary. You will be taught by students of the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen in a non-intrusive way.

PS. You already know at least one word thanks to our visual.

The event takes place as part of the accompanying programme of the 14th Festival of Arab Culture. This year's subtitle SPORT also points to the fact that it is a universal link between cultures that otherwise face, for example, a language barrier.
