Panel Discussion: Sport Diplomacy and Sport as a Phenomenon in the Middle East

Sport in the Middle East as a social phenomenon that moves regional and global events. Sport is used to overcome cultural and political-geographical barriers, to build relations between individual Arab states and to influence international politics. Journalist Fatima Rahimi (Deník Referendum, Radio Wave), sports sociologist Vojtěch Ondráček (UK, Outsider podcast) and sports diplomacy expert Jiří Zákravský (ZČU) will discuss the role of sport in diplomacy and its significance for social change in the Middle East, as well as the football fields and the role of women in the discipline of sports negotiation.

ArabFILMfest: Lift Like a Girl (2020)

The internationally award-winning documentary by Egyptian-born director Mayye Zayed. Zebiba, a 14-year-old girl, has been training since the age of nine to achieve her big dream of becoming an Olympic champion and following in the footsteps of Egyptian stars, the first Olympic champion Abeer Abdel Rahman and world champion and Olympic athlete Nahla Ramadan. Can Zebiba focus entirely on training and become a weightlifting champion? 

The film is followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Mayye Zayed and Czech Olympic Committee representative and basketball player Ilona Burgrova.

Saturday 13.4.

The Great Saturday Program in Papírna

A popular event for the general public and entire families. This time visitors will visit the Pilsen Papírna, where they will be able to discover stalls with Arabic goods on several scenes, taste selected specialties at the ORIENTAL STREET FOOD MARKET, listen to a lecture about skateboarding in Jordan and experience a film workshop. The programme will also offer dance lessons, board game competitions and a Hall of Fame exhibition representing famous Arab sportswomen and athletes.

Sunday 14.4.

Charity run in support of Doctors Without Borders

Running can sometimes be literally for life. The organizers greatly appreciate the work of the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which has been providing medical and humanitarian aid to those in need for over 50 years, including in the Middle East region. Run with the ARABFEST team and support MSF's fundraising efforts with a donation. The last day of the festival will symbolically close this year's edition as the festival started - with the Scouting principles...

The run is designed for easy runners, experienced runners and those who are new to running. You will be able to choose from two route options. You can find more details at our Facebook event.
